Wates Construction are transforming a significant Leeds landmark, originally built in the 1930's for department store, Lewis', into a grand mixed-use development. The impressive building, which dominates the central shopping street in Leeds centre, The Headrow, has been vacant for a number of years and is now being painstakingley refurbished to provide retail space on the lower, ground & 1st floors, offices on floors 2-5 and luxury apartments at penthouse level. The development is beset with challenges to ensure the history of the building is preserved whilst increasing its impact with additional floors and returning it to its former glory.
